What you guys think? Im pretty excited for this new engine... a 3.5L duratec producing 250 horses and still getting the same gas mileage as its predecssor... IM a little angry about one thing though, they are putting VCT in the intake cam...

And that is bad because?
Is it because you don't like improved fuel economy as well as improved power including a braoder power band?

I rectract my previous statement about the VCT, appearantly its already on the Duratec30... So I guess its a proven technology on that particular engine.
Like I said, I am excited for this engine, as when I get out of college I plan to probably buy a Fusion.. So I will be one of the proud owners of the Duratec 35.
Which arises the next question. I read that this engine is pretty much the same engine as the Duratec30 except with internal differences.... Do you think we will see cases of it being installed in contours? or are there some major differences im overlooking?

It looks like from prior posts that the 3.5 is an entirely new design. Don't count of much of anything to be transferable to the 3.0 or for it to just be a bolt in replacement.
My guess is that it could be made to fit, with fabrication of motor mount adapters and a bell housing adapter, but until someone gets their hands on one and tries to see just what can be done it is all speculation.

I like to think of the Fusion as a 3.5L auto Contour with a better transmission. That's just my opinion however.

The motor mounts shown on the 3.5L were identical to my 6's 3.0L and its stated the packaging size of the 3.5L is the same as the 3.0L.
The engine is all new from the block up, though many Ford parts bin parts like the intake variable cam timing system. The block recieved a new casting process which has left it open deck, but they said with the new process, it's stronger than the former 3.0's closed deck (I still say fill it up and close off the block if you buy one).
