Hi,

Yesterday I notice my manifold is cracked and I heard it when i'm driving....but a just want to know if I let it like that and don't change my manifold, Is there any danger...can I break something else in the engine or it's just for the performance and it doesn't matter if a chnage it or not ??? because honestly I don't want to change now...maybe in the future....I have other priority before that

thanks

Since you said exhaust manifold, I assume you are talking about a Zetec. It really would help if somewhere, profile, signature, or in the post if you sould tell use what every parts counterman must always know to get you the right part. MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR as well as other DETAILS that will help us know what you are asking about.

With the assumption (assumptions are dangerous) that it is a 4 cylinder, the exhaust manifold includes your cat. It isn't particularly cheap.

An exhaust leak anywhere near the oxygen sensor can throw off the oxygen sensor readings and create engine drivability problems and also may lead to setting check engine codes. An exhaust leak is also dangerous for the passengers of a closed car in that it can lead to high levels of carbon monoxide.

Sometimes such cracks can be welded. Sometimes you need to replace the manifold.

So, please tell us MAKE, MODEL (INCLUDING ENGINE SIZE), AND YEAR so we can better help you instead of just guessing.

oups sorry....I knew I forgot something...

it's a Ford Contour 1995 4 cylinder....and the manifold is bolted with the catalytic converter but it's not one piece.....I just change my cata yesterday and it's at this time that I notice the crack on the manifold....

Do you know if they make some good Headers for my model ( 4 cyl. 1995)....because IF I change the manifold one day it will be for headers....I don't want to modified my engine or anything but if headers are not a lot more expensive than stock manifold why not put headers....

thanks

I installed stainless steel Cougar Zetec headers in my Contour 4 banger a month or so ago. They fit without modification, but the lower oxygen sensor is a mighty tight fit. Might be a good idea to thread the sensor in before hooking up the lower end of the headers.

You also lose your cat, so you'll need a MIL eliminator for that lower O2 sensor. If you have visual inspection in your county for the cat, you'll need to add one to your system - I got a very compact bullet style cat installed because my daughter drives the car mostly. I didn't want there to be anything illegal about the vehicle while she drives it. Quite a slick little converter, really.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
