Sebastiani 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon. Get a bottle and thank me later...

I've had reputable $70-80 a bottle cabs that didn't taste HALF as well as this $16 bottle of heaven. I had a bottle of it tonight and what scares me is thinking what it's going to taste like in 3-4 more years of maturing in the cellar.

I'm heading to Costco tomorrow and clearing them out.

I'll never post again unless a few of you promise to buy a bottle; it's THAT good and I'm a cabernet snob like no other.

Just buy a bottle; it's utterly drinkable today after letting it breathe for 10-15 minutes in a decanter.

Wow.

Beringer 2003 Cabernet Savingnon - it's cheap ~$7 bottle here, and I'm generally NOT a CabSav drinker - but it's seriously one of the best bottles I've ever had!

This is better. Beringer is solid for the price, but it doesn't touch this...

So, are you buying a bottle or not?

I'm on it. I've been more into some spanish wines lately for the value, but a very good bottle of cab for 16.00 is intriguing.

I'll be buying a few bottles on Friday. Our firm is celebrating the end to Corporate taxes so I'll ensure our vino snob partners get a taste of this stuff. I'm buying and have a $300 budget

If this is the stuff, BevMo has it for $11.99/BTL

In that case, pick up a bottle of Mestizaje 2003 Bobal and Les Alcussess of the same year, along with the cab (make SURE you get the Sebastiani)...

Both are excellent Spanish vintages that will age well, cheap (under $10-15) and are quite drinkable now.

The Mestizaje is a wacky blend; it's got damn-well every variety of grape known to man. It's somewhat sharp to my tastes, but should mellow out a bit over time. Regardless, I'd still crack a bottle open today if asked.

I've been backing off of Italian Chianti Classico lately and have been hitting the Spanish reds myself. The latest Chiantis have been quite disappointing whereas most of the Spanish wines I've had have been surprisingly delightful.

Here's how to have some fun with your budget; put it up against a mid '90s Opus One Meritage (usually runs $230+ a bottle if I remember correctly). Buy that and a bottle of Sebastiani and you'll have enough left over for a cigar or two...

I'm DEAD serious. Do a blind taste-test between the two and see what folks say. Cabs are the ONLY wines I blow serious coin on and I'll go out on a limb here and say I've tried most in production over the last decade.

Maybe I got a "magic" bottle tonight (I hope not), but I'll be able to tell tomorrow, since I'm opening another bottle for that evening's meal.

I'll have to check it out.

My mom cracked open a bottle of Opus One (93 IIRC) a few years ago when they sold the house.

Good to know. I'll pick up one or 6. Keep the recco's coming... I've been out of the wine loop for almost a decade now.
