for some reason my brake pedal loosened up, and not unless it is held in place in its fully retracted position, the brake light sensor is activated. does anyone know how to tighten up the pedal so that this can be fixed, I can't explain how aggrivating it is to have to jam the pedal in place everytime i get out of the car, not to mention having the brake lights perpetually on.

Welcome . If the spring is broken, you need to replace it. If the spring is dirty, you need to spray some WD-40 to get it to work to spring back.

The pedal return spring is worn out or broken.

You'll have to either replace the booster (where the spring is) or just add a helper spring from a hardware store to pull the pedal back out.

Hey Matt,

This is Chad. Did you check the Haynes manual to see where the spring is located?
