So, Whenever I turned the steering wheel the front end was making some strange noises. I was thinking ball joints, so I took the wheels off to take a look. The front springs on both sides were broke on the top and bottom, in exactly the same spots. Currently a 114,000K on orginal suspension....
Is this a common problem with CSVT's? How would something like this happen?
I had suspension plans for the future, just not this soon. I guess its time to start saving for the Koni kit...or searching the classifieds

It just happens, it flexes and snaps, I had one break on me at like 65K-68K. Crazy isn't it.

What year and where was you car built? I know 98 Contours built in Kansas City have a recall for broken front springs I am not sure if the mileage limit is 100 or 150K miles.

I have a 98 Mystique and I had new springs and struts put on under the recall, but I had less than 30K miles on the car at the time. If you do a net search for recalls you should be able to find out the terms and if your car is subject to the recall. Then just call Ford and they will tell you what to do.

I just got back from the local Ford dealer. Recall excludes SVT's.
I got a copy of the OASIS report......It did not give any detail just said that it was not covered.

I recall does not exclude the SVT. This happened to me last month and got it fixed, but my svt had 58,000 miles. They are pulling your leg. Maybe the miles have something to do with it I think its 100K

Unless things have changed since the recall was first issued, the SVT was excluded. I remember it well. We never did see many broken Contour springs in southern California though.
There were two recalls. The first was to install guards so that if a spring did break, it would not puncture a tire. The guards didn't fit very well and a lot of people took them off because they were noisy. The second part would replace the springs only if they did break. The SVT was not included in either of these.
Eoither the dealer was able to negotiate a deal with Ford for your SVT or the dealer will not be paid by Ford for the claim.

I don't know if CSVT's were included. I just had my springs replaced in December but again I had less than 30K on my Mystique. However, the recall is good for up to 150K miles. You should call Ford first and they will tell you what to do and then go to your local dealer. There is apparently a requirement that your car be sold or registered in certain states. I had problems with local dealers doing the work, even after I had called Ford directly and had been told that set up an appointment with my local dealer for replacement of the springs. I finally found a dealer who could do the work and they also replaced my front struts as well as the indicated they were prematurely worn due to the broken spring. The recall info is as follows:
