For the last year i've had a check engine light on in my 98 svt contour. Its been throwing a 172 and 175 and i've spend countless hours and lots of money tryin to fix this problem. Well today the guy that i take my car to talked to his friend at the local ford dealer and he said that these cars are known for fuel pump problems... He told me if it isnt the regulator then its gotta be the pump. I replaced the regulator among other things and i now and leaning towards the pump.

Ok my question here is i've read so much on here about using a fsvt pump is this the best option for me or should i stick with a stock contour svt one... If anyone could shed some light on this for me that would be great... N also whatever pump u recommend could someone please tell me what all i need to do this swap parts wise and maybe some part numbers as well cuz i'd like to do this in the next couple of days... U tell me weather u'd use the fsvt pump or the contour pump... Remember my car is a 98 svt contour

thanks
jason

Well I've gotta ask.. What all have you replaced since throwing the P0172 & P0175 codes? Those codes are usually tied to bad O2 sensors. Do you by chance have headers? Maybe you've got some bad MIL eliminators? Have you checked for intake leaks? Have you taken any of your intake apart for cleaning/maintenance? Maybe you've got a bad gasket somewhere. You might try cleaning your MAF and replacing your IAC, and then resetting your computer.
If your fuel pump was going out, you'd probably be able to feel it. Generally at 1/4 tank and under, the car will buck under acceleration. If this is the case, you won't be able to use the Focus SVT pump, as it is for returnless fuel systems, while the 98 CSVT has a return fuel system. You can get a Walbro pump to work, or I'd just stick with stock if you are lightly modded or stock. Hope that helps.

Hey thanks man i will call ford today and order a stock 98 svt contour pump... Is there anything else i'll need to order along with the pump??? Like gaskets, seals or anything else??? Cuz if im gunna do it i might as well do it right u know...

N as for the codes i've replaced all 4 new o2s and that wasnt the problem... I put on a new maf and replaced the air and fuel filters... Honestly thats just the tip of all that i replaced trying to fix this light. So im now down to it being either the fuel pump or it being my exhaust leak which is comming from between the manifolds and the heads... I doubt it is the exhaust leak tho but it very well could be or could be just masking the real problem... Honestly i think i'd rather remove and put in a new pump before removing the headers... Awhile back i put an alt on the car and i was gunna do the headers at the sametime and gave up cuz man that is one crazy pita job...

so hey if u could get me part numbers or a list of parts i'd need to do the fuel pump that would be great...

Ok, I'm having a heck of a time finding the part#. Just order it from Bill Jenkins. Just let him know you have a 98 SVT and need a stock fuel pump.

As for your problem, I bet it's your exhaust leak.
