My temp gauge on the stock cluster was all the way past the red like it was over heating but there was no lights that came on like it did when my water pump went. I was wondering on what I would do about this? Does it need to be taken off and put back in the right place or is it something major? Maybe the temp sending unit?

WP failure (does it blow hot air from the vents?), thermostat stuck on closed, radiator fan or resistor not working, radiator plugged, Coolant temp gauge sender.

Edit. Test coolant temperature gauge sender. Per Haynes, if temp. gauge in dash reads hot after engine is started from cold, disconnect senders electronic connectors. If the gauge reading drops, replace sender.

Here is a post from Chongo. It highlights the ECT sensor.

The coolant temp gauge sender is the bronze (??) looking thing below the "Co" from the word coolant.

Wrong sender.

The guage uses the single terminal sender to the left of the ECT.

What wrong sender are you talking about?
