As if there isn't enough problems at Ford, now this with the crash tests? IIHS poor score.

Can it be worse than a Contour? After seeing Rick's multiple flip plus tons of other cars on here can it really be that bad?

I thought the Contours had relatively high crash test ratings? Rick seemed to get out of the car okay, without a broken ankle or anything.

I don't think so. However (and unfortunately), the rest of the car buying public are not comparing the Fusion with the Contour. They are comparing the Fusion with the Camry, Accord, Sonata, Malibu, Sebring, etc.

I'm just stating poor in comparison to what. I doubt too many cars today are death traps aside from that Korean SUV that was posted that imploded on impact.

In my book, if the car passes- it's in the green. I hate
gray areas of average-good-great in between poor and excellent.

I feel that entire article was a potshot at Ford. Not that I am whole heartedly brand loyal (honestly) but come on- I feel if it were a serious enough issue to be a risk to your safety the Fusion would have been failed for lack of side impact performance. I mean I could be wrong but that's how I feel.

I know 3 or 4 people who wrecked Cavaliers to the point where the car was unidentifible. They all walked away too, but that doesn't mean the Cavalier is a safe car. 1 person I know who drives a Cavalier got hit by another car in a parking lot going 15 mph and she got a broken arm and numerous facial injuries, despite the fact that she was wearing her seatbelt. Did I mention she was the driver and the car was T-boned on the passenger's side.

Rolling a car is one thing. Hitting a concrete pole or getting t-boned by an SUV is something else entirely.

I saw the story on this on Dateline (? I think - all those shows run together). Both the Fusion and G6 faired poorly in the side impact test. The simple reason was not having side-impact bags standard. At the end of the story, both Ford and GM made mention of making the bags standard on '07 models.

The Hyundai did poorly in the offset crash test, due to a defect with the seats (the belt caught a latch allowing the seatback to fly forward). Hyundai issued a recall as a result, and it faired much better.

I just think that for the pricepoint, if you don't opt to buy optional side-curtain airbags, it's on you, the consumer. I'm sure if the BMW or Lexus didn't have them, they wouldn't make out so hot either.
