After four years of an extremely Quixotic relationship with my Contour, yesterday I finally traded it in on a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire. The decision wasn't hard at all: the Contour had just this side of 97K, the body was showing its age despite my efforts at maintenance, and, in spite of my best efforts (or, perhaps to spite them) the car kept breaking down. Plus, the Sunfire goes like stink!

Sunfire. Whoo, good luck with that.
Enjoy it while you can, and maintain it well. Otherwise I think you may have gone from the frying pan to the 'fire. (* Pun intended *)
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

The J-body is a reliable platform. It has a decent engine and bullet proof ATX. What little maintenance it does need is cheap. Cons are it is nothing fancy, has lots of squeaks & rattles, and below average handling. However it is a base model MPG car and it does that well. However saying the Sunfire goes like stink is a good bit of exageration. The 2.2L DOHC (140/140) is slower then the 2.4L DOHC (155/155) it replaced. I don't consider anything in the 16 second range to be "going" much at all.

It was not broke; Yet I fixed it anyway.

I'm sorry to say that I think the Sunfire is one of the most unfortunate-looking cars I've ever seen.

I say good job with the J-Body. You will have fun with it. They are alot of mods out for the j-body. Look at www.j-body.org they should have all the answers you need. Great forums as well. Post pics

i drove a 2000 cavalier z24 automatic coupe and it wasn't BAD,but it wasnt good either. i also drove a 2002 sunfire coupe and that was the worst car i have ever driven in my life.
I'd keep my beat up contour over a j-body,but they're cheap cars, very basic, reliable and a good car for a person who doesn't like cars.

You know 30 seconds ago I just posted that you should complain about the contour, now you're saying that you would keep your 'tour over a brand new car.
you are a complete f'ing hypocrite.
That aside...
Congrats on the new car and treat it well!
