Can some king of window caulk or something be put into the rubber motor mounts to stiffen them up? If so what kind do you recommend?

3M Quickset Urethane has been done before, but you'd probably be better off just buying the Energy Suspesion insert for the trouble you'd go through.

Here is Scott's write up from a couple years ago: http://www.coldair.org/archives/9907/msg00640.html

I did my own in a 93 Sentra SE-R I used to have. I used 180 durometer (sp?) and it worked well. Have to let them cure for a long time though.

It can be made to work and it's certainly cheaper for a $4 tube of roofing urethane than the ES inserts. If you don't mind the mess and the time involved, go for it! Ford did a mount upgrade in 98, so install those first if your car is an early.

How many did all the motor mounts (is there 3 or 4?), and how many just did the front?

Roofing Urethane isn't as stiff as windshield Urethane which costs $11 a tube... Bad place to save money when the real inserts will only cost a few bucks more, not get you as dirty, and you won't have to wait all week for it to fully cure...

ES insert and the rest are urethane.

The ES insert got rid of the annoying jerky shifting and initial drivetrain wind up on normal starts.

The filled mounts made most of the rest go away. There still is a fine line between traction and wheel hop, but atleast it's just a fine line instead of a broad range like normal.

Shifting and road transions are much more predictable too.

A final mod would be a torque strap or adjustable torque limiter, but that would either be a track only piece (drag or auto-x) or make for a rougher daily driver. Though not as rough as solid mounts eh brad??? laugh Buzzzzzz wink

Tubular and plate steel... Just like the racers use... actually, they aren't that bad except for when your first crank it over she jumps quite a bit...

Did you notice any rougher ride with your modifications?
