1999 SVT 2.5L duratech v6

when i accelerate in the low rpm, there is an annoying rattle or grinding type noise...it makes the car sound like crap...however it doesn't do it when you rev it in neutral...anyone know what might cause this?

Could be something as minor as a bent exhaust heat shield (can bend it off whatever it's rattling on) to as bad as gear grind. I'd say it's a bent heat shield, despite it not rattling when in neutral.

Tranny mount loose?

Someone else with more experience will chime in, I thought I'd tell you some pointers so youre not stuck waiting.

Welcome . I doubt it is the ABS sound (unless it sounds like a "thunk"/spring sound.

yeah for example if i shift early like from 2nd to third or somthing and i accelerate, the rpms drop obviously and it makes a rattling noise until it gets into like 2300-2500 rpm range....i dunno..but ill check it out thanks for the advice

I've just had my car(5spd contour SE Sport) checked today for the same symptoms as to what you describe. Heat shield was tight and in good condition, tranny mount and bearings have nothing to do with it apparently. It turned out that the grinding noise comes from the speedo or RPM cable!!?

Sounds like good old fashioned lugging to me.....

I had the same problem (98 SVT), people told me the same things. I even put a dual-mode damper on, helped a little, but I knew the annoying vibration wasn't always there.

Turns out the bolt on the left-support insulator (mount on TOP of the trans) was broken, and the rear roll restrictor was flattened a little. I didn't even know the mount on top of the trans was broken untill i went to take it off when i pulled the trans and it fell apart lol. I replaced both mounts and the vibration was gone =D

Its been my expierience any little vibration that wasn't always there, and the engine runs fine - inspect all the motor mounts.

Yep.
Sounds like your just luggin the engine. The Duratech operates best above 2000rpm. Try to keep it above that when in gear.

Take a look at your catalytic converter heat shields, you may need to clamp around one of them with a long hose clamp, or several linked together. It may rattle if you tap moderately on the shield. The large catalyst under the floor on my Mystique had a rattle. Sometimes the inside of the catalyst breaks up, hopefully not on your car.
