Do dealership labor costs increase with time, as part costs seem to do, with out-of-production vehicles?

Because a local dealership told me a few months ago that it'd cost $65 + tax to install an IMRC, and now the labor cost is nearly double. Other dealerships are quoting me upwards of $250 (just for labor!) to install the part.

What a joke... Man do I need to find a good, private mechanic, and fast.

Bro,

I'm in Memphis, and the IMRC is an easy install. The hardest part of the whole job is getting the cable end onto the LIM cam (?).

No harder than sparkplugs, IMO

Or, you could keep the simple stuff to yourself. Otherwise, you are paying that mechniac that amount for about 10-15 minutes worth of work.

Yep. Take the beauty cover off, unhook the linkage under the throttle body undo the 3-4 bolts that hold the IMRC to the cam cover. Might have to remove the accordian tube to get the linkage off. As Ryan said 15 minutes. You have 1400 posts and can't swap an IMRC.

D'oh! For some reason I always thought connecting the linkage required special tools, not to mention disassembling more than just intake sections...

todras, I can. I just didn't know I can.

Great to hear! The more you know about your car, the more you will learn to love it.

The IMRC should be a fairly simple job, and take much less than an hour if you take your time & have a beer or two while you work. As usual, the toughest part is the tight access, but that is easily overcome as well. The rewards will be well worth the effort. Enjoy!

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

I'm all about working on my car, as long as I'm sure that I have the proper tools, time, and understanding before diving in.

For some reason, I assumed that this install was beyond my abilities. The linkage to the LIM looked far more recessed than I thought I could access easily. And as I already said, I thought a speciality tool or two were needed.

Luckily, I've been blessed with small hands. So what most people find extremely difficult (in terms of access) I find moderate at worst. Hopefully this install will be no different.

IMRC has been ordered. Let's get it on!
