I am wondering if anyone has taken anytime to look into converting a CSVT to all wheel drive? Is it possiable i've heard of a rear wheel drive conversion and figure that and all wheel all the time drive conversion would be possiable as well. if this is the wrong place for the question sorry but it seemed like the right place. thanks

I don't know but I think some of the Escape's came with all wheel drive and some of them were duratecs, so maybe you could get some parts to do the conversion, but I think you are looking at some major mulah $$$

You could also look at a Jag X type since it is basically a Contour.
From what I understand, it would require a lot of floor pan sheet metal modification to allow for the rear axle since the Contour never was designed with AWD in mind. I also understand that there were a few Mondeos built with AWD, but they required extensive modification for the same reason.
So go find a Jag X type in a wrecking yard, and remove not only the trans, transfer case, and rear axle, but take a torch to the rear floor pan as well. And don't forget anything else that must be moved out of the way either (fuel tank, etc).
Why not just start with a Jag X type?

Doc, I thought you learned your lesson in this thread. You actually went and searched, and that was good! And yet, you post again, in a similar vein, without searching. Here is a post on the topic. Here is someone else getting flamed for asking without searching. Seriously, I just searched the transaxle forum for AWD and I only got eight threads to look at! It's cool if you want to learn more about the possibilities of the platform, but try some more research before you ask questions. Or at least ask a more meaningful question. Maybe discuss building a Contour for the $2006 challenge and wanting to get it in the 12s, with AWD - we'd love to talk about how to do something like that! But these kind of money-no-object-is-it-possible questions always get the same answer: yes, but it's likely no one ever will. Now there are some things you can do for very cheap that are really cool. Koni and Ground Control have products for the suspension, and you can fit a 3.0L engine in with no problem at all. There's an LSD available, as well, and upgraded transaxle components. All of that kind of stuff will let you build a very cool car more in line with the Contour's original purpose. And while the Contour will always suck as a drag car, it's already a properly good handling car in stock form, and it can get even better.

(sarcasm on) Everyone says it's tough to hook up on this FWD platform and that RWD cars are better suited for putting power to the ground. But searching, I found nothing about converting our cars to all wheel steering. Has anybody ever thought about converting a Contour to AWS, then we could steer more naturally while driving in reverse? Because in reverse, we'd be RWD and I bet then we'd hook up! And I hear drag guys like the Ford 9" rear end. Can I put one of those in for my differential? I'd like to have the FIRST Contour to pull a WHEELIE, but not if I have to move my subs and amp out of the trunk. What do you think all this would cost? I plan to have the money for this in a year or two.

Because it's based off the Mk3 Mondeo platform. It's a little larger. I guess you could just fab the parts off of it though. Cheaper to ship a junked mk1 or 2 Mondy over.

And cheaper still just to buy an AWD X-type and be done with it.

In retrospect, it was all downhill from here. RIP, CEG.
