I have been trying to locate an 88°C (190°F) thermostat for this vehicle - reason - when I replaced the thermostat in it recently, it was an 88° version I took out, however the replacement was 92°C (195°F). When I fixed the problem with the car - which was actually a faulty temperature sending unit - I now find that the needle is running about 3/4 the way up the temperature gauge - sure wish I'd kept that old 88° thermostat! Every parts provider I have tried stocks 195° or 180° (too cool) thermostats. Even at RockAuto the proper Motorcraft part RT1150 (ford no. F8RZ8575CA) says its a 190°F version on the listing, but when I received this part, it is stamped 92°C!! Anyone know where to go to get the 88degree version?

autozone only carries at 180 degree. Check out Advance Auto, they sell a 190 Degree one. I use that for the winter and it sticks right in the middle of the gauge all of the time.

Do know that the thermostat does not affect the final operation temperature just how long it takes to get there. So if you put a 160 degree thermostat in the engine will still operate at 190-210 degrees.

Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding! If you are having heating problems, the first thing to check is if the coolant strength is acceptable; buy a $5 coolant tester. Then you may want to consider flushing the system, testing the ECT sensor, Temperature gauge sender, radiator and water pump.

yup the lower temp thermostate will just open sooner allowing the coolant to flow and then cooling it off thus making it take longer for the enigne to reach operating temp. which as we know from a previous post that the engine wears the LEAST at operating temp. and the most when its cold

well, thanks for the tips. I ended up replacing the thermostat with a 180 degree version (82 deg C) and problem solved - temp gauge sits right where it should
