Hi, my a/c damper door switch is not working (96 SE V6). Heat and ac works ok, but air goes out of the defrost vent. It does this even if I set the switch to pnl, pnl/flr, flr, or flr/defrost.

Need advise if thise means I should replace the ac damper door switch. Thanks.

More likely, you lost the vacuum to the control switch.

Loose vacuum, the airflow defaults to the windshield. Every Ford is the same.

Look under the hood for the single vacuum line that goes through the firewall. Don't recall off hand exactly where it is and I'm not going outside right now since it's only 16F outside... It isn't too hard to find.

EDIT: Just remembered... There is a vacuum motor directly above the gas pedal that performs the switch from the defrost to the other outlets. The linkage on mine came off a couple of years ago and also caused this symptom. Had to virtually stand on my head and look up to see it and to reconnect it. Check that too. Someone had posted a pix of it a year or two back, maybe you can dig it up with a SEARCH.

Soon after this problem started. Hi/low and everything in between works, but only from the defroster vent.

Try this.

Thanks! I'll check it out tomorrow. Hopefully it's just a loos vacuum line...

Hi,

i checked the motor near the gas pedal and the vacuum hoses are connected. Is there any other area in the interior I should check? Thanks.

As posted earlier, you may have to look under the hood for the vacuum line going to the firewall and follow it to the manifold to see if it is cracked or came off.

Edit. Read this Autozone how-to (especially Figure 2) and see if it helps.

Not the hose(s)on that vacuum motor. Check the mechanical linkage.
