in the right direction as far as dropping the gas tank? I thought I remembered seeing a few how-to-ish posts a while back. I seem to remember that the SVT exhaust needs to be dropped a bit. I only need to drop the tank an inch or two.

Any hints or instructions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

God, I just did that nightmare last month. What a clusterf***!.

Empty the fuel tank. I went through the access hole in the trunk, loosened the pump and set it aside enough to insert a hose, then siphoned the gas out into a fuel can.

Drop the exhaust by loosening all the rubber hangers up to the Y-pipe.

If you only need to drop it an inch, put a floor jack under it, loosen the straps, and then lower it a bit. The forward part will drop more than the rear.

If you need to drop it all the way good F'ng luck with that abortion of a filler tube and its retainer.... I'm still pi$$ed about that project..

BTW, why are you dropping the tank??

Steve

Thanks, doesn't sound too too bad for what I need to do. I'm replacing the plastic/vinyl/whatever it is fuel line that runs from the fuel pump to the fuel filter. I broke the coupling that the filter goes into a while back--it has been on there with duct tape, and I think I'm pushing my luck. The line isn't too flexible, so it's a no-go just going through the hole under the back seat. I got the part off a totaled SVT at the junkyard (the dealer doesn't sell just the dinky little line I need--you have to buy it as part of a wildly expensive bundle of fuel lines). There are no fasteners or bolts or anything, it just clips on at the fuel filter and at the fuel pump. There's a little rubber snap on the tank, but it's pretty easy. I just need to lower the tank a tiny bit so I can remove the busted line/snake the new one back up there.

Wish me luck!
