Contour Enthusiasts Group Archives Forums General Troubleshooting Do i have an Idle Speed Control issue?

I am just trying to figure out exactly what this problem is, without going to ford for another diagnostic. I've got a 4 day weekend and i need to fix this asap.

What happens is: The car starts off fine, runs fine. When i have to brake however, and come to a stop, about 45% of the time the rpms will drop very low, or it will completely stall.
Doing this more and more from last week.

What i think it could be:
1) Fuel injector clips holding the injectors to the fuel line... one or two got snapped in the intake gasket replacement last week.

2) Was driving without a filter for about 6 days thanks to ford and me being an idiot... could it be the MAF is dirty?

3) I've heard a theory from somebody that it could be failing pre-cats? I havent looked into that yet at all.

4) Idle speed control - havent looked into that too much yet, but it sounds like that fits my problem.

What do you guys think? I have plans today to replace the fuel injector clips and clean the MAF, and hopefully replace the PCV. . but if those dont fix the problem, i am completely stumped. CEG'R in need.

chances are it is the IAC, the car will want to stall often and this is normally accompanied by the moose


try what you said you were going to try first then try the iac after if those ideas don't work.

For sure clean the MAF sensor.
Why would Ford let you drive around without a air filter?
Also clean the IAT sensor. Do you have any CEL codes?

whats the iat? .. i had called ford and said they could put gaskets on, then changed my mind and came and got it, without calling. apparently the mechanic thought the car was staying and didnt put the intake back on but put the hood down. So i went to ford and got it and they had told me it was driveable, so i thought all was good. so i get on the road and it feels a little less powerful but i didnt want to drive it out until i have the gaskets fixed. then when i looked under the hood with my friend who i was going to put the gaskets on with, we noticed there was no filter. i call them and they say woops yada ya

I know what the haynes manual tells me and thats the extent of my knowledge.
