Hey guys,

I searched, but all I found was "car staying on with ignition off". This isn't my problem.


I had fuse #34 blown, (headliner lights not working, mirror, clock, etc..

I replaced the fuse about 15 minutes ago and now my ignition won't turn all the way off (to the point it 'clicks' and locks (right now I can still pull the key out but you could start the car with a screwdriver ,etc..) I took the fuse out and the igntion clicks a couple times then locks.. I put the fuse back in same thing.. I also notices I can shift it without the brake being depressed also.

Any help would be great.

no idea because I have never worked on a contour with an atx but it sounds like the shift lock solenoid/mechanism isn't working, I think that it needs to be in park so that the key will come out?

the key will come out, the ignition tumbler just won't turn all the way off.

that is most likely because the key is worn, I can do that on my fatehrs car, pull the key out in any possition, shouldn't have anything to do with it inless the ignition cylinder jammed up

i'd say it definetly has to do with the shift lock thing.. when i take the fuse out i can still shift without the brake but every time i hit the brakes you hear the shifter 'click' like it does when you hit the brake to shift out of park.

where did you find that? thats the prob i'm having, but i can't find it with a search...
