My 96 Zetec only has 105000 km.
When I stop at an intersection, or the car is stopped in drive, the car vibrates noticably, especially in the steering wheel. Not smooth at all. Pop the transmission into park or neutral makes it a lot smoother, no load on the engine, runs at a little high RPMs helps it seems.

As soon as you drive all is well.

No stalling issues at all while idling. All is well otherwise. No CELs ever.

New plugs and wires, but that is about it.

Did some searches, a lot of info on line on rough idles, but this one might be different. It never stalls or anything. Same regardless of temperature.

Been doing this for a while, but it is mostly driven by my wife, so she is probrably used to it.

Any comments,

thanks.

Finally a solution to my problem? Could it be? I'll check into it today...

Hi,

I have the same problem with my Contour 1995, 2.0 L Zetec, 48,000 miles. I recently bought it used and the idle was rough when I got it.

Today I replaced the IAC valve. No change, still vibrates in gear while stopped.

I have removed and inspected the upper left and upper right mounts. They appear to be in good condition.

I've read most of the threads I could find on this, and no one has a solution that consistently works.

Anyway, I'm thinking about replacing the lower front mount. I was wondering if this replacement worked for anyone else.

Thanks.

Try this, remove the vacuum line to the EGR valve & plugged the hose with a golf tee. If it's the EGR value thats causing the problem the misfire will continue & means that the EGR valve is defective. If it continues to idle badly reconnect the vacuum line & remove the electrical connector for the EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR) if the idle stays bad replace the EVR unit. However, if the idle get's better replace the Back Pressure Transducer (DPFE) unit. Hope it helps

I will have a look at that as well.

Here is a explanation of the EGR valve that i found some where else:
Quote:

EGR Theory. EGR serves one purpose and one purpose only. That purpose is to reduce Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx). Undernormal combustion, Nitrogen(N2)Oxygen (O2) in the air and Hydrocarbons (HC) in the fuel combind into water(H2O) Carbon dioxide (CO2) and the Nitrogen remains unchanged. Under very hot combustion temperatures, the Nitrogen reacts with the other two byproducts and forms Nitrogen oxide (NO). After being released into the atmosphere, it picks up another Oxygen and becomes Nitrogen dioxide (NO2). In the presence of sunlight,
it combines with other compounds like Hydrocarbons and forms Smog. Since exhaust gas is inert (very stable) it doesnt burn again. So by being introduced into
the combustion chamber, it will lower combustion chamber temps enough so that
the Nitrogen doesnt react with the other compounds and is passed unchanged out
the tailpipe thus not contributing to smog. Now, since exhaust gas doesnt burn, it
doesnt exactly help with combustion. At higher RPMs, this really isnt noticable,
but at idle, the reintroduction of exhaust gas will cause a very rough idle and can
cause stalling if to much is introduced into the combustion chamber
