my friend is in his third year at west point and is receiving his 35k loan that has under 1% interest. he was asking me what kind of car id buy and thought some of you guys would like to chime in with your own opinions for him. He wants something that he could add to eventually, like lower, bodykit etc. nuthing drastic, he was throwing around ideas of tc's, vr6, etc. what would be the best looking performing slighty used 2000 and above car for his price range.

i would have said 1970 Buick GS if he didn't want a newer car. That would actually have been an investment where as a newer car would go down in price. Other than that, I say WRX....should be a market for it still when he sells it.

I would probably go for a 2002 WRX...AWD so he wouldnt have to worry about "not gettin around", quick, fun, and funtional with 4 doors...Also good gas (depending how he drove it) and respond pretty well to mods...Just me though!

I would buy sumin with a warranty, he is youg and if he is going to finance he is not going to have spare time to fix it or time to take it to a shop as he is at college.
Lots of great practical new cars for $15K
Mazda 3 '06 Civic '06 Sonata w/ 4cyl Elantra GT 5-dr hatch, w/ 5spd, leather, moonroof, side airbags and 10yr warranty for about $12-13K. PT Cruiser Cobalt Focus

Good luck finding a 2001 WRX for less than $15,000 (you'll need it) Lots of cars to look at, I also been looking into the colbalt, from what I have been reading its a really good car when it comes to gas milage and maintence. Just tell him to do the research before he buys what he wants.

Judging by AutoTrader, it's actually harder to not find one less than $15,000; and those are at dealer retail prices. And for good measure I tried several zip codes across the country (including Tampa, FL if that is indeed where you live).
