Ok, I have searched the archives and found alot about side wall rubbing on the strut cylinder. Well here is my dilema: My two front tires have worn through to the Chords. This is on the inside inch and a half of the Tread(foot print) of the tires. I have only had these for about 5,000 miles. I have KYB GR2 struts with H+r sport springs, 18x7.5 wheels and 215/35's tires. It looks like where the spring rest on the strut there is an extra little lip that hangs down and the tires rub on it. anyone have this problem?? If not what would be a solution??? thanks

if the lip does not mess with the way the spring is seated on the strut I would just grind it down with a dremel.

how is the inner tread touching the strut? do u mean the inner tire sidewall? sounds more of a camber issue. what offset are the wheels. i dont recall the sprint perches being that high up that the tread part would actually touch it.

Like hmouta says, sounds like a camber issue.
Have you looked to see if something is actually rubbing or if it's alignment?

I noticed the same thing, but only on my front right summer tire when I took it off in November. A little ridge worn into the tread area for about an inch in from the side. It looked like it could have been from the spring seat on the Koni strut, but there is no contact when stationary with wheels straight or turned. I have 215/45/17s on for the summer and 225/50/16s for the winter.
Maybe it was only making contact (at least in my case) while going around hard left turns... maybe at the track? I never heard it rubbing that I can recall.
Anyway, yes, I believe I know what you're talking about.

Anyone have pictures of this funny wear?
I can't tell, but you may be describing the wear I had prior to installing the camber kits. I had about a 1" stripe starting about an inch from the inside edge of the tread. It was from excessive negative camber and was resolved with the camber kits and getting the camber way down.

I'd also like to see a picture of the offending part. It almost sounds like a broken spring....?
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Sounds like incorrect offset on the oversized 18" rims.
Your tire size is a puny 23.9" tall & an average 8.4" wide.
I have no rubbing issues running 225/50's (25" tall & 9" wide) on E1 rims with the same H&R springs.
Therefore it is either a rim problem or broken suspension.

Same here. I run 225/50's with h&r's on e0's and have zero rubbing problem.
