I was doing the front wheel bearing and taking the steering knuckle off when I did the stupid act of trying to hit the shaft out of the hub with a hammer. Well i damaged a thread or two so I now need to replace my cv shaft.

Anyway...the shaft will not come out of the trans. Its stuck. I replaced a cv shaft on my cavalier and it pulled right out of the trans. Why is it stuck in there so good? I tried prying with a pry bar between the trans and shaft but still it doesn't budge. I am so confused at why its not coming out? please help.

you want to do it with 2 people is the easiest....

one needs to use a pry bar and get constant pressure on it (a lot)...then the other needs to tap the side of the case where the bearings are with a hammer.

it'll pop right out...the ket is the keep pressure on the circlip and then with a couple knocks they pop out.

Just showing you the proper way it should be removed, with a slide hammer. Autozone might even have one to rent.

even a slide hammer doesn't do that great of job...trust me I battled with mine for like 6 hrs one time...broke chains and everything...called a mechanic that my father-in-law knew and he said put pressure on it with a pry bar and they use an impact hammer, but he said a normal one would work.

My father in law tapped (and I mean tapped) on it and it popped out so fast it knocked me one my butt quite hard.

OK, well while pulling on it and trying to pry it out, the outer piece seperated from the inner piece. So now i only have that little stub coming out of the trans. You say the trick is to keep pressure on it with the prybar while someone else hits it with a hammer from the side?

I have an OTC brand slide hammer and the special C shaped attachment and it works fine for me.
