I have 1996 ford contour 2L and i was just wondering catalytic converter out on my car and put a staight pipe there. would this make a diffence

What exactly are you looking for when you say "difference"?

You might be better off gutting the catalytic converter so that you don't have to mess with bungs for the O2 sensors (and don't forget the mileliminator for the lower O2 sensor).

No performance gain to speak of. You can get headers that will add to performance a bit, but be prepared to spend money on a catalytic converter after the headers & a new exhaust system because it will sound very bad with headers only.
