According to my Haynes manual, that transmission has two modes. Sport and Economy.

Yet, there's no switch to enable/disable sport mode.

My mother's '92 Sonata has a switch near the shifter to change the tranny's mode. Along with an O/D switch on the shifter itself (like my Contour)

Is there a way to enable sport mode, or is it done automatically?

Any way to install a switch to switch between sport and economy?

BTW, it's OBD-I

pretty sure there is no such thing. problem with the haynes manual is it has some information from the Mondeo which has alot more features then the Contour does.

I would get the 95 service manual or cd

I heard taking the overdrive off supposedly engages it. Pretty sure you won't notice a difference unless at the track though.

That info is from the owners manual, IIRC. All you have to do is turn off the OD and you'll be in sport mode. The difference is minimal.

I remember asking this when I had my '95 ATX, and it did seem that the references to a sport mode were carryovers from the Mondeo.

Haynes Manual is retarded... I promptly returned it after finding out how not helpful it is.

Just for kicks, try to change your brake lights or headlight switch using their instructions. Guarantee you will break your headlight switch, and be confuzed by the 5 or so bulbs they show for the tails.

In other words, sport mode = no 4th gear. My Ford service manual only makes mention of locking out 4th gear, and I know my ATX shifts exactly the same through the first three. Is there something else we should be looking for in sport mode?

Sport mode is something on mondeos. We do not have it. It's not the same as turning OD off. I believe the haynes manual is partially based on the mondeo, and they missed some of the differences.

<==== (* Runs out to check owners manual *)

OK, the owners manual of the Mystique make NO mention of the 'sport' mode. Time to try out the resistor mod for the tranny!

I searched on MEG and came up with this:

Thread #1

Thread #2

Thread #3

From what I have gathered, they have 2 seperate switches. O/D on the shifter itself, and E/S (location?).

Seems like some of them either don't have overdrive, or don't have the OD OFF button...

Finally! Here's the info I was looking for. They do have 2 seperate buttons...
