I got a price for a 2002 Taurus engine from my favorite Advance Auto Parts store.
$3,043.00!!!!!! and a $450 core charge!!!!! Freakin' nutz!! Is that typical?? I can only hope that price was mis-quoted.
I had no idea. I can remember getting V-8 short blocks with all new bearings & rings for $350 and if you wanted a long block with all new goodies they ran abot $700.
Based on that crazy chiz, building your own 3L is the ONLY way to go. For that kind of money, you can have it built & installed for you!
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Rebuilt late model engine with 2-3yr warranties easily cost that much. Remember you are paying for shipping & the warranty when you buy from a large chain like that. Used low mileage engine is $600-700 shipped. $1000 freshened up with QUALITY parts. Who knows what you get in SOMEONE ELSE'S rebuild.

When I worked at AAP, RECON's (the rebuilder's) quality was hit or miss on their engines. And warranty claims were a PITA.

That last sentence is my sentiment exactly.
To sum up: Somebody would be paying $2000 for a warranty, which could pay for 2 more self prepped engines.... sick.

And good luck getting a warranty on an engine from a Taurus dropped into a Contour. Guy at LKQ asked if I wanted a warr. I said I'm dropping it into a Contour. He looked at me like I was crazy.

the warranty wouldn't apply because its not an 'OEM' application or 'original' application.

Thats rediculous...you could buy a crate engine or build a high output 383 with that. (not that I would)
