Help...Help...
My 96 Contour had a slight miss and hesitation at idle and acceleration. I was checking the spark plugs when I pulled #1 the electrode (porcelan) was broken . Some of the broken pieces got into the cylinder so I rigged a small vacuum hose to get out what I could. I then turned it over a few times without a plug to blow out any debris. After I installed new plugs it acts like it's not getting fire and thumps like it's trying but will not start. Could this engine have jumped timing?

Any help appreciated

Hope you did get all the debris out of the cylinder.
Are you getting spark?
Are the wires on in the right order?
Plugs gapped to .050"?
Do you have fuel?
Check all the little things that can go wrong first, then post back with your findings.

I have turned it over to a mechanic friend. He says that it runs now as long as he's pressing the accelerator but as soon as he lets go it dies. He's having trouble with this one and he's pretty good.

Check the TPS sensor. When he holds his foot to the floor does it red line the rpm's or barely run?
