Hey guys. Just curious as to wheather or not any of you have experience with Nextel or not. I've been thinking of switching to them, but just wanted to get some more opinions before I actually did so because I have some concerns about the coverage area. I've heard good things, and bad. What do you guys think?
Thanks

Walkie Talkies for normal citizens that are actually using cell phones are stupid.

Do they make people feel important that they can click a button, talk for a few words, then hear the person on the other end through a loud speaker? That is annoying as F*CK to people that have to listen to that crap.

Get a real cell phone, talk like normal people, and lose the CD-radio mentality for communication.

Well, the main reason I was considering Nextel was beacuse a lot of the people that I work with have it, and i can see it being quite useful. Other than that, i plan on using it as a normal phone. Thanks for the info. though.

overrated, expensive, and if they are really that important your work will provide you with one. This opinion is based on pre sprint merger experience.

I currently have Sprint, bought them before it was Sprint however since AT&T Wireless went downhill after Cingular and they wanted me to switch contracts over and I decided [censored] that [censored].

Nextel has proven to be nice and reliable for me. Everywhere I go I tend to get a great reception, except certain locations but noone tends to get any. I have the Motorola i205 which is now discontinued, but it has a real loud speakerphone, so I don't have to hold the phone to my face while driving, I can set it on my lap or cup holder in the Taurus. Customer service has been great during Nextel and now with Sprint. I've delt with them a few times reguarding small things. Although I rarily use my Walkie Talkie, I basically got Nextel because the phone was $.99, free activation, free shipping/handling, and so on.
Generally I really like the phone's durability. Sure it is old, and has no colour screen, but when I toss it across the room, it doesn't break
To me a phone is a phone, as long as I can call people, and tell them something, I am happy.

My views on other wireless providers: Cingular - Just crappy ass reception around here, same with US Cellular. Verizon - Last i heard of they don't use a SIM Card, so when upgrading comes around, gotta transfer ALL the numbers over. Sprint - The old commercials were annoying with that douchebag going around in his stupid trench coat. I kinda try to go for the provider with the least annoying advertisments...

So hopefully this can be useful

Don't go to Montana with anything other than Verizon.

Sprint/Nextel don't even work there. If you have Cingular/T-Mobile only expect service in larger cities (like Great Falls, Billings, Missoula, etc).

I had Nextel andw as happy with the coverage until I moved about 15 miles South. Then I would only get signal if I stood on my front porch while holding a metal rod and touching my tounge to my nose.

So I switched to Verizon, get perfect reception anywhere in teh house, - the metal rod. I miss teh walkie-talkie feature occassionally, but overall I'm happy I left them, especially since they merged with Sprint.

They get great reception in the heart of areas, but touch the boundary nad you get nothing. And you don't realize how bulky their phones are until you don't have one and have a phone with a bigger screen!

i have a nextel and a sprint. i say if a bunch of your friends/co-workers have nextel then go with nextel. Walkie feature is awesome since you dont have to call someone, all you do is connect say what you have to say and thats it. If all your people have nextel then get the lowest priced plan that includeds unlimited walkie. That way you dont pay alot, and most of your comunications are going to be done over the walkie not the cell.As for coverage, just look at the coverage maps in your area and decide whats going to work best for you.

I have it an it's not as popular in the midwest/southwest, but on the east coast it is huge. For those hating on the loudness of the beep and whatnot when in walkie talkie mode you can use walkie talkie like a normal phone so no one else here's what you are talking about. But I get great service and would recommend it over say verizon which is what i had before. It is expensive, but I have yet to have a droped call and I've been on it for over 6 monthes, where with Verizon I had a dropped call about 6 times a day.
