I'm about to tear into my 1999 contour Duratec v-6 intake maifold b/c I think I have a leaky injector. I have a couple questions for the experts...

1. I tried to look in the spark plug holes to see if there was any dripping fuel to identify the culprit fuel injector but I cant see a thing. Has anyone had luck with this and how? Does there have to be a ton of leaking fuel to see it?

2. I went to the autozone and picked up the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets plus some O-rings for the injectors. The O-rings I got appear to be two slightly different sizes... but I was expecting something else... I have read allot of talk about injector nose seals and was expecting something more like my mazda that has somewhat fat rubber bushing like seals on the fuel injector base instead of an o-ring. What does the contour have? I don't want to tear the car apart only to find I have the wrong stuff. Can someone suggest were to find these nose seals and perhaps a part number???

Thanks again,

Bryan

My 95 has a wide and narrow end on the injector. It is a return type system. Just be careful of the tips, especially if the tip guard sticks inside the fuel rail pocket. I set the new seals in a little pool of motor oil and slip them on when the old ones are removed. The new seals will make them a little harder to pop in but they will be tight. As for the leaky one, I haven't found anything on locating which one. You can't fire them out of the engine unless there is some kind of test jig for them at Ford. Unless you can remove the LIM, bolt the injector assembly up to it and pressurize the system? That's my best guess. Then look for the one that piddles.

You can get an o-ring kit. I think it comes 4 to a kit so you need 3 kits for the Contour. O-rings for both sides of the injector are the same. You can get kits from rockauto.com Felpro #ES70599 $2.01 a kit. Use this discount code which expires on February 14, 2006;

You can remove the the UIM & electrical connector at the coil,crank the engine and watch the injectors spray
