The tranny got replaced at the same time as the engine (it was starting to slip, so I had it swapped too, since they were swapping engines.

When I'm between around 60 to 90 KM (or higher), If I just give it more gas, it will not downshift, and I can hear the engine straining to try to keep up with the (lack of) acceleration. I have to disable O/D with the button on the shifter.

Is it *normal*, or should I have it checked too?

(and when at a stop light, the engine gets shaky as if it was encountering too much resistance from the tranny (that might be related to a bad sensor or something else though...)

CEL doesn't light up BTW.

The TSS and converter are working if the O/D button is responsive. Kickdown is calculated using engine sensors. Try cleaning the MAF and testing the TPS linearity and range. Be sure ECT output is in normal operating range. Engine static timing may also be an issue as power could be lacking and not show up in sensor data.

Pull codes in case there are some stored.

You want less gas if you want to downshift chiefy...
Giving it more will only keep the atx in the gear it is in.

Quickly let off of the gas and get on it again immediately. The engine's quick dive will kick the trans down a gear.

THat's not what I meant. even pushing the pedal half-way, it won't downshift. I really have to floor it so it goes in third gear.

You mean your cruising in O/D and you want to pick up speed to pass. So you get on the gas and and it stays in O/D? No downshift at all?
Check the VSS and Tss sensors.
Does the engine hesitate at all? I had this when my coil was getting weak.

They told me last time the VSS sensor registered a code or two in the computer, but the CEL stays off. Would that cause the CEL to turn on, or not?
