I would say YES!!!!!!!!!!

I bought my 'tour with 62k on the clock. I immediately changed to Mobil1 and a K&N HP-2004 oil filter. I have never had any problems. I rev the living crap out of my Zetec daily and am now at 138k. It doesn't burn or leak any oil.

BTW, I also use mobil1 synthetic ATX fluid. If you don't have synthetic ATX fluid, change over to that now too. One of the main problems with the Contour ATX is that it doesn't have a servicable filter. I change my fluid once a year and my CD4E is still running strong. If you are planning on any power, you should also add a tranny cooler.

As long as you're changing the ATX fluid yearly, you should be fine. The synthetic is only added insurance.

I could only find the Mobile1 Synthetic ATX at Auto Zone around here. I think it was about $7 a quart. You could probably buy a case online for much less.

It's amazing how these old wives tales won't die...

Any motor in sound working condition can be switched to synthetic at any time. As soon as you switch, you begin to accrue the benefits of better flow at very low temps, resistance to oxidation at high temps, and generally better additive packs. As far as damaging the seals, that issue was solved back in the late '70s. It IS possible that some small leaks can occur when switching to synthetic in a motor that was poorly maintained and has a buildup of sludge and/or has seals which are hardened. When the better detergents and dispersants in the synthetic oil begin to clean away the crap that was plugging the seal, there can be temporary leakage until the seal conditioners restore the seal's pliability, then the leaks will stop.

I will admit that there's no real economic incentive to use synthetic oil unless you take advantage of its ability to go longer between oil changes. Using a $5.50/qt oil for 3,000-mile oil changes doesn't make financial sense, although you do still get the advantages listed above.

The flush stuff doesn't matter. Just with your first time with synthetic, I'd change it by 3000 miles. After the first time, you can go longer (usually 5k miles or more, depends on your engine and your driving conditions).

FordFan, I would be very hesitant to use any kind of "quick flush". They have been known to dislodge large(er) chunks of sludge (if present)and clog oil filters and small oil passages. Unless you have evidence the motor is especially dirty, just do what SVTfrog said.

I agree. Don't use the flush.

Putting weird cleaners in you engine is risky. Especially when you have dissimilar metals (like us).

Just return the flush and use the money towards the synthetic.
