For a while now I hear a ticking sound coming from the tires. Least I think that's where it is coming from. Pretty sure.

When I roll down the window at a stop sign, I hear nothing. As I start to move the ticking starts off slowly then the ticking sound gets faster the faster I go.

Any idea what this is? What I need to do to repair? If I can repair it myself I'd like to instead of taking it to a shop and getting charged an arm and a leg.

Thanks

Welcome !
just a silly guess but
if you have hub caps pull them off mite have a stone stuck in one

worst case wheel berring but that you could tell if the car drags to one side .. and thats normally a scratching sound ...

I've got hub caps but I don't think it would be a rock inside as they have breathing slots in them. As I begin to drive off the tick is very consistant.

The sound reminds me of when I was little and was riding my bicycle with a playing card clipped on the post and when you start to move the card would tick. The faster you went the more the ticks.

As far as drag, I can be going down the road and let go of the wheel and it stays rather straight.

Would warped brakes make a tick sound? It's definately annoying tick that gets less frequent when you slow and speeds up when you do.

Put the front on stands in neutral and turn the wheel by hand.

If it's the hubcap or rim it will quit. Look for pebbles and stuff stuck in the tread too.

Could be CV joint, wheel bearing, brake, plastic trim...

or if they're belted radials, a loose belt in the tire.

Rotors were warped and cracked from overheating. I blame it on California drivers since they were the ones that made me stop suddenly all the time. It had nothing to do with me driving to fast all the time.

Had the Rotors replaced, tires replaced, and pads. The ticking sounds from both front rotors (that general direction) has stopped.

That's one for the books.

Glad you got it fixed.
