have you had the tires replaced since last winter? If so, what did you have installed.
Damn, if only you could blame it on Circuit City....

Doesn't the carbor impregnated straps bolted to cars and dragged on the road prevent static electricity build-up?
As I understand much of static is generated from pumping fuel through so many lines and different dielectric hoses.

unless you're being sarcastic... then

Interesting to add on this... when the big hype about the gas stations fire stuff kicked off, someone did a survey of like 150 incidents. All but 1 or 2 were female, and all of them said they got back in the vehicle when fuel was pumping. Add to that most of them wore dressy type shoes (no insulation value).
Their survey (my translation of it) came up with that most women/some men suck since they are cold/lazy, and get back in their vehicles. Combined with the dressy shoes that just add to the static, you got problems. Most men/some women, on the other hand, usually do not get back in their vehicles and are usually wearing boots/shoes with rubber soles (i.e. electrically insulated).
Also ZERO of the incidents were caused by cell phones...
BTW, the shortest measurable spark gap requires 350+ volts for it to happen...
