Hey guys, I have had my SS SHO ShOP y-pipe on for a while now. And I have been hearing htis sound that happens from 3-5 k rpm. It is JUST LIKE A TURBO sound! Its s whoosing sound of air. I was thinking an exhaust leak but then wouldnt it be very raspy? Whats that messhy material that is on the y-pipe. I think it is coming from there.. Any help on this? I like the sound but it is very annoying and I dont want people to think I have a turbo because I couldnt back that up. So where could it be coming from to be a smooth "whooosh" sound?
Thanks,
Joe

It's coming from the hole in your head. Seriously though the mesh is the flex tube. Have someone rev the car while you inspect underneath. Make sure the car is out of gear. laugh

I think someone asked about he mesh stuff before and the answer was this.

The mesh is used only to protect the underlaying bellows. This bellows, which looks like an acordian is made of one piece of metal so it can should not leak.

the sound you hear could be commng from a number of sources.

like mentioned before, with the wheels chocked, transmission in neutral or park, and the emergency brake set have an assistant hold the engine at the RPM where the sound is heard while you inspect for its source.

No need to rev the car with someone under it, look for black soot marks. Sho Shop pipes are known to fail around the connector portion of the flex pipe. Black sooty deposits indicates a leak. Most of the normal whooosh sound on our cars comes from open element air filters, especially under part throttle. You should hear my 3 liter talk to me!!!

Yeah I thought it was the intake then I poped on the air can and it still made the sound. I then got under the car.. (wheels locked, out of gear) and then had my friend rev it up. It sounds like it is comming from the front portion of the exhuast. So I will have to see. Thanks,
JOe

yo dude..if you have an aftermarket intake it is definitely coming from there. I have heard the sound you're talking about, and it dont do it w/ the stock airbox on...cool!!!

No i think something is wrong with it. It is so loud between those RPM's. I dont know. I am ticked, I have spent a lot of money on my exhaust. My exhuast is super loud and I still hear it from down there. I dont know.. WHOOOOSHHHHHHHH!!!
