Hi All.

My 2000 Mondeo V6 has been running perfectly.
Been garaged for a few weeks, bit dusty, hosed dust off (carefully), ran fine.

Started it again the other day:

Speedometer not working
Cruise control (aftermarket) not working
Airconditioner not working (although fan runs)

Any ideas?
Cable come loose?
I cant seem to find any blown fuses.

"hosed dust off (carefully)"
With water? And where?

"Speedometer not working

Could be the battery and/or alternator dying.

Battery test. Engine off, lights on for one minute, should be 12 to 12.5 volts across battery terminals.

Alternator test. Engine running, should be 14 to 14.5 volts across the battery terminals.

"Cable come loose?"
Maybe. Check the wiring from battery to alternator and battery to ground to make sure there is no short.

When the battery is almost dead, it does funny things to the electricals, wipers coming on, hazard lights coming on, instrument panel lights coming on,.... you get the picture.

Thanks Tony2005.

Just hosed from the roof down, nothing serious. I seriously doubt i've managed to get water into the electrics (slow stream of water, onto roof, bonnet and doors). Never had problems with seals although you never know.

I'll try those things and see if the battery is dying (a possibility i guess, although not that old). If it starts getting harder than that, it's probably got a trip to ford coming its way.....

Ok - we've had a better look underneath now - turns out a rat ( ) chewed through some wires - so it's off to the auto electrician.......

I had fuel pump wires cut right through by some furry creature on my old Dodge Lancer. Looked like wire cutter cuts.
