My cougar doesn't start anymore. Last saturday when it was cold I went out to start the car and it worked fine just like it normally does. Then as I was about to leave I remembered I forgot something so I turned the car off ran inside and came back out in probably like 20 seconds. I get in the car and I turn the key and nothing happens...I have full electricity and the radio works and everything and I checked the battery and have already tried changing it and it still does nothing. It doesn't make any clicking sound or turn over at all it doesn't do anything. I was thinking it'd be the starter, but they don't go out like that and its a brand new one anyway. If you have any idea tell me I need to get to work.

Check the battery cables from battery to starter, and battery to ground.

Is your car equipped with PATS?

If so, what's the red light doing?

I can't find the starter cable. And you mean the (-) right? On the battery, same as the ground.

Sorry, I mean to say check the wires from the battery to the "other" connections. To ensure that none are chafed or loose at the connections or kinked.

The PATS system is Passive Anti Theft system. Later models have it. If you have it, you would see blinking red light on the dash when the car is locked. If you don't have the red light, chances are you don't have the PATS system. Apparently, the PATS system can sometimes cause a "no start" condition.

Ok I just talked to my friend who did the wiring for the car. He said its most likely the neutral safety switch. I know what they are but I know nothing about them. I know it should be at the top of the clutch pedal since the cars a manual but I don't know what to do with it. Does anyone have pictures of which one of the things down there is the neutral safety switch? Because I know one of them is a cruise control and some other stuff. Im gonna try just disconnecting and reconnecting them. Thanks

And yea that thing is blinking on my dash. But Im pretty sure its the neutral switch. If the neutral switch thing doesnt work I'll try doing something with the theft thing. But I've never heard of "Cars" not starting, but I have heard of stereo/cd players not working unless you enter a code. Thanks
