Hey guys,
I have a 1999 Ford Contour L4-122 2.0L DOHC SFI.
Ok, so my check engine light came on. Had it coded and said the upstream O2 sensor is faulty.
I went to the dealer and gave them the specs of the car,
"1999 Ford Contour L4-122 2.0L DOHC SFI".
They gave me the wrong O2 sensor (Part# DY738). I didn't know until after it was installed.
In one of my previous posts, someone mention the website, "http://www.motorcraft.com". I decided to check if the same product # came up as the dealer did...just for curiosity. It gave me a different number for the O2 sensor. I went back to the dealer and they said they gave me the correct O2 sensor. After I showed them copies of the pictures and the info from the motorcraft.com website, they found the calibration codes for my car. After that they admitted the number I came in with was the correct one. But still, if someone else would have come in, they STILL would have gave them the wrong O2 sensor cuz that's what comes up originally....the guy even told me that. I think this is very bad to hear them tell me.
Therefore, the O2 senor they gave me is for a 1999 L6 engine and not for my 1999 L4. Perhaps their database is messed up?
I am still waiting for the presumed correct part # to be ordered. In the meantime, the Service Manager has been conveniently *bury* and I have not talked to him yet to ask if this is an interchangeable part and if any harm or perhaps benefit to my engine?
Here are the numbers:
1999 FORD CONTOUR 4-121 2.0L DOHC
Part# DY775
UPSTREAM OE# 96BB-9F472 AA, F6RZ 9F472 AA
1999 FORD CONTOUR V6-2540 2.5L DOHC
Part# DY738
UPSTREAM O.E. #96BB 9F472 BA, F5RZ 9F472 B
This is the part they gave me. In addition, they still insist it's the correct one, although, after looking at my calibrations, they now are puzzled why the other number now applies for my car. Therefore, they are ordering the Part# DY775.
Could someone please try to explain this to me? Are these two parts interchangeable? They look exactly alike. In addition, what harm would come to me engine if I use the V6's O2 sensor in an L4 engine?
Thanks
Mary
