Ok, I have searched far and wide to avail. Well, I have a 96 Mystique instrument cluster (electronic) I have seen several posts about this swap to a 95 contour but mys question is what do I have to do change over the cable driven instrument cluster to the electronic? By the way, I have swapped the engine out of the 96 to the 95 tour. Had to swap out the engine harness from the old to the new. I have the electronic speedo pick up from the new trans. My thoughts are that I should be able to pull the cable out and press on. Am I wrong???

Thanks
Greg

not sure but I believe the speedo signle goes to the pcm first, so if the car doesn't have the electronic speedo I would think that it wouldn't have the pcm to cluster wiring, but then again I seem to remember the fact that a cable driven speedo in a 95 still has the vss and that a cluster will work by plugging it in.

actually this would be good to know because my cable driven speedo is wearing out and the needle bounces around alot at times

I am thinking the same thing. The old Speedo drive has the same three wire connection along with the cable. I am going to try it to see what will happen. My thoughts are that if I use the Electronic VSS from the 96 Mystique... it should work. I will let you know if all goes well.

I cranked up the beast this evening and the Tach works as advertised and the speedo is responding but it is irratic. I think I read somewhere that some wiring needs to be switch around. Let me do some reading and I'll give you an update.

Man this site is great. Like I said earlier, I took the VSS from the 96 engine and swapped it out and I took it for a ride and everything worked fair... Shifting was off and the O/D switch made had no affect. I did a search on here about VSS and found someone else was experiencing the same thing. Went to the local junkie... picked another VSS from a 96 contour and swapped it out. Turns out the one I had originally was bad. Cranked it up and took her for a ride. Everything is now very peachy. So for everyone that is wondering if the electronic speedo will work in a cable drive contour... IT WORKS!!!!

Again Thanks for the help.

Greg
