Remove headlights from car or mask off car body, Wetsand them, with fine sandpaper (1000, 2000 grit) buff and buff with compound then I used Meguiars cleaner step of their wax system repeatedly and then once shiny, use tire shine as needed. Try e-bay, new ones are not too pricey for the older tours.

as long as you don't buy the "depot" brand headlights from ebay.. those are JUNK
fitment issues, poor quality, etc.
though for pre-98s I am not sure if they offer them at all.. so you'll have to see.

Does anyone buff with a power wheel or just by hand? I've done my lights twice by hand but can never get them as clear as some of the examples I've seen on this site. Karl

i used a power buffer on my post98's...skipped the wetsanding part, just used some heavy grit wax and went to town, than i used meguiars platic polish,i've heard pete say he sprayed them with clear coat too?.

i got a 96 contour and have the same problem.. i got a can of Turtle Wax Polishing Compound and some old face cloths(the textured kind ) wet the fACE cloth and ring out the water... put some paste on it and rub into the plastic lense.. takes about 10 minutes each lens.... also you can use a bonnet on an electric drill to spead up the process... i use some silver tape to tape up the painted area around the lense so i would not take the paint off... and with the hood open... took about three tries to make them look like new glass... i cheated by also using some magnifiy goggles to see where the tarnish was still located on the plastic lense.... cost of Turtle Wax polishing compound was $1.79... enough to last for a few years.. if it dries out in the can you just add a little water to it to work it up again into a paste....

No, it's a polishing compound. There's some grit in it to make it abrasive. To do it a tad faster, use rubbing compound a couple times, then step down to a polishing compound, and finally to a polish then wax.
I've tried this method, and it helped some. The best results I've achieved have been from sanding, then using the aforementioned procedure.
