I'm a bit confused.... tonite on my way back from work, under slightly harder acceleration (think I was going around 80 mph) my engine seemed to lose power... a lot. Eventually I got home and I realized that this is prolly the moose. It sings and stalls every time you play a bit with the throttle.
Now... My question is how come this happened overnight? My understanding was that moosing would happen once in a while... I've had this car for 4 years now and it's the first time I've seen this. Is it possible that there's some other problem?
I can't find the damn pipe cap for the throttle hang so I can't tell you if that works or not... there's no day like tomorrow tho!

any help is appreciated...
Thank you

bit of an update...
the throttle hang fix seems to work.
I'm still a bit concerned, as I feel the car running a bit rough and maybe not that strong...

any suggestions?

You said it was stalling too? Does it still stall after you have performed the fix?

nope, the TH fix did work in regards to stalling... however the car is running a bit rough... I've seen idle speeds of 4-500 today but it climbs back to 7-800 after 3,4 sec... and she's not that responsive anymore. I'm also keeping an eye on the gas indicator... that one seems to drop faster than usual...

what is this moosing thing anyway? sounds like the whole intake manifold is resonating somehow! And shouldn't we find some lean code or some other cel?

Try cleaning or replacing (use only Ford part) the IAC (idle air control). I had the moose (1998 Mystique) a little in the summer, with hot starts running errands one day. Also, if you have aftermarket air filter, put stock parts back on. Check for cracked vacuum lines, loose air intake hose clamps. The 1998 Mystique already has the moose fix, the old 95's would stall if it moosed, until putting on the fix kit.

What do you mean by the "Fix Kit"?
I just cleaned my IAC and it is much better at idle but not perfect. The valve was dirty but it came clean inside.
I'm thinking I have a small vacuum leak as well. Took it to a tech and it showed nothing. Checked vacuum,EGR and solonoid, cleaned TB etc...

Your 98 should have the right parts already, unlss you have an aftermarket air filter setup, which will generally make it moose..

Then you need the TH fix.

okay... things got worse this morn... stalled on the highway... seemed to me like fuel starvation... car would almost start, then die right away... wife towed it home, changed fuel filter, put back the stock filter, took out the TH fix... nothing. 2 min later it starts as if nothing happened... but now the moose is back. I'll try to clean the IAC valve tonite and will keep you posted.
