Just close the door using your forearm, where your shirt or jacket covers your skin. Not only does it reduce the shock, but also reduces those ugly finger prints! Why must people give my door a huge palm print when the shut it? I just washed it! Mark

When getting out of your car...touch the quarterpanel or some other metal part of the car...and keep your finger on it. While you still have your finger on it put your foot on the ground. This process take about 1.5 seconds, and results in no shock for me for over a year! lol

Ok, Thanx for the input guys! Just wanted to make sure that this wasnt some rare thing. I might have to connect a strap from the door to the ground or to the ground terminal of the batt......somethin. I get a pretty hard hit from it once in a while.
Anyway, Thanks

Use the key (as you contact the metal of the key)to touch the metal. Happens all the time in dry weather here in Flori-DUH. Happened to me last week. It's nice to know the laws of physics are still observed in lawless Florida.
Is my car for sale? PM me if you're in South FL.

I was listening to Car Talk on NPR a few weeks ago and a caller asked this same question. Click and Clack (sp?) said it had to do with the types of tires there were using. A certain material inside the tire. It doesnt seem all that logical but heck, thats what they said. Thought I would throw this into the mix.

The knuckleheads on NPR are right. Guess those MIT degrees were some good, after all.
Some high-mileage rated tires are very low in long-chain carbon molecules so they will wear longer. The lowered carbon content of the tires causes them to be a better insulator of static elcitricity than a conductor.
I had this problem on my old 93 Exploder when I installed some budget high mileage touring tires on it. Got shocked for years. Finally got sick of the tire's performance overall and replaced them with Michelin LTX M+S tires. The static problem went away.

I had recently put new 80k mile tires on and it doesnt happen as much as it did with the old (original) tires. Who knows?? What I do is make sure that I am touching a metal part of the car when I get out.....this sometimes helps....sometimes!
