Really? Are they the v6 or the 4 cylinder? If its a v6 then I wonder what is different?

V6... I came across that on MEG when searching about fuel pumps.
Ok, so their search feature totally blows right now (can only do a Google search of their equivalent to our main page), but I found this:
2nd engine failure
Once I figure out how to search the forums, I'll find more!
Oh, I do remember that they had a theory of early/late engines. I can't really remember, but I know you could tell by the color of the valve covers or the timing cover or something (either black or silver).
Quite a few of the posts were jealous of Contours and our non-headgasket-blowing Duratecs, even though they were built alongside each other. They were going to the extreme and wondering if it was the gas they use.

Well, quick update for you, the heads are off!!
It wasn't blowing on just one cylinder though, not even two, but three cylinders... You can probably guess where if you know the head gaskets on these.
Still, i've checked the heads and the block (just to be sure) and it looks flat, so thats good news at least.

The MEG site is full of V6 HG problems. For some reason ,only known to Ford the Euro spec Mondeo V6s eat HGs like crazy. That particular topic has come up on CEG occasionally and remains a mystery.

My head gasket went but I know exactly why. The woman who owned the car before me ignored the non-working water pump and overheated the car. Blew the gasket out on #6. I got teh car for a steal and replaced the needed parts. Now it runs fantastic.
Gotta say I love this little engine.

Also from what I remember the water quality over the pond is much worse then it is here. A high metallic content in the water can accelerate head gasket failures. (i.e. hard water)
A would STRONGLY recommend deionized water and a high quality NON-PHOSPHATE & NON-SILICATE antifreeze mix. Then again that's what I recommend for any cooling system.

Doh. You are correct.
They are both purified water. On a quality scale distilled is a bit better and what I meant to state.
Distilled water removes both ionic and nonionic contaminents.
