Lately as I'm driving around town, I've noticed a little problem. Just to start it off, it's a 98 SVT, 80k miles. When I turn hard lefts (typically left onto a road or pulling out of a parking spot), I'll feel this "pop" in my front wheels, and also my steering wheel. I've checked the lugs, they are al tight. I've never felt the problem when taking right turns or in straight aways. Any thoughts or opinions? The car has a relatively new tranny (replaced at ~60k), and is currently running Redline MTL (save it todras! ) in there. Mobil 1 in the engine, if that makes a difference. It feels like something that could be anywhere from the clutch/tranny down to the lugs, so I haven't a clue how to pinpoint this. Thanks guys~ Chris

Sounds like broken suspension springs to me. I recently replaced both of mine, as they were both broken.

Sounds like a ball joint getting loose. Either that or a CV joint, but I doubt that.

Get that corner up in the air and grab the top and bottom of the wheel. Try and wiggle the top and bottom in and out and if there's any movement, there's your problem. If you don't see any noticable movement, have someone peek under there at the ball joint while you're doing it again. Sometimes there can be movement not all that noticable from just the tire side.

A broken spring will usually cause a bit of sag (if broken in the right spot that is) or will cause noise while driving over bumps.

Maybe bad wheel bearings?

Also check the securing nut on top of the strut tower. Make sure that is nice & snug, otherwise a popping noise is common as they come loose & the strut wobbles around.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

True, but normally if that nut is loose, you would hear a popping/banging noise, even driving straight, when riding over bumps.

Allright guys, the problem has gotten QUITE a bit worse. Each time I turn, no matter how hard or soft, no matter left or right, the car is making the "POP" action repeatedly. Almost feels like something in the drivetrain is bucking or slipping a gear. I've noticed that the problem is cured by pushing the clutch in the duration of the turn, or shifting to neutral. But when the car is back straight and I re-engage the engine, it will buck once more, then drive fine in a straight line. On slight turns at speed, the car feels really quite loose and unpredictable. I believe it's about time I stop driving it and really figure out what the problem is.

BTW, it seemingly just GOT worse. No progressively worse, just the normal popping I described earlier, I drove to work today, and on my drive home, it was bucking on every damn turn. Any help would be appreciated, at this point I almost just wanna get 'er fixed and sell it off cheap, and get a nice, clean, used SVT that I can trust, as this one has given me quite a set of problems. Thanks as always, good day.

Uh, the clue would be gotten from jacking the car up and looking at the drivetrain.

I went to the doctor and told him it hurts when I touch my foot. It hurts, as well, when I touch my hip.

It hurts when I stick my finger in my ear. I said, "Doc, what's the problem?". He said my finger was broken.

And it makes it a bit of a challenge to get under the car when I have no jack within 80 miles, and no CEG member within about 60 miles. And no, I can't use the spare tire jack, it's broken. I'm asking here to get a general idea of the problem before I have to take it into a shop and really get into it. C'mon, try not to be an ass the next time someone is asking for help. And oh yes, you're gonna get the rolly eyes...

sounds like the motor mounts are bad and letting the engine swing over when turning.....something to think about...
