got a question for the audio nerds (dnewma? ) about home audio. I just moved into a studio apartment, and I'm looking for something that will fill the room a little better than my computer speakers, and maybe give me a little more flexibility - someday the computer might not be in the same room as where i want to listen to music.
so I'm looking for a receiver and a cd player and speakers - ideally 4 smallish ones that i can mount up on the walls and out of the way if i need to, and a sub.
I haven't really set a budget yet, but if you guys have any recommendations, let me know, it'll give me an idea of what i can get for my money. oh and btw I don't have a problem buying speakers and enclosures seperately and that kind of thing - though I don't really have the time or desire or workspace to build my own enclosure, so that's out.
so, any ideas?
now officially a troll, i guess. used to have a black 96 SE, until it broke down one too many times.
now I'm hunting for a motorycle.

For the receiver, check out brands such as:
Harmon Kardon
Denon
Yamaha
As far as speakers go, there are so many different options and it would really depend on your budget. My personal recommendation would be M&K

Gotta go with polk speakers. also onkyo recievers/cd players are quality. I bought an oknyo reciever and polk (r2s i think) when i jr high and im about to graduate college and both still rockin. they took alot of abuse all through highscool and especially in the dorm. I have since up upgraded to 6.1 onkyo surround and it is absoulely amazing -s

amazing how people start spatting out the brands they own when a question like this is asked. I'll give you the best piece of home audio advice I or anyone on here can give you.. STAY THE &#$%&^#! AWAY FROM BOSE!! If you buy Bose you've simply been a sucker for marketing. Also stay away from Monster Cable.. not because their product is bad. Just grossly overpriced and overhyped.

I think he's merely stating that Bose is far and away NOT the best product available in any price point. Sure, bose has some nice tech, but they are WAY overpriced for what you get.

Have you ever compared their specs (if you can find them published) compared with other quality brands? You would be surprised who comes out on top. With Bose your paying that much extra just for the brand name.

Of course we're going to mention brands we own. How could you make a personal recommendation for a product that you've never auditioned? If you don't trust my recommendation for the speakers I suggested "and I do own them" then go check out the multiple reviews that rave about them. I've recently owned some polks and klipsch models and in my opinion they didn't come close to the m&k's. Btw, good call on the bose. When I got tired of those little cubes, I blew them up for pure enjoyment.

i think his point is... don't say "buy polk, their stuff is great" when it all obviously isn't.
say "i bought this polk model abc and i loved it for these reasons".
it's akin to owning a vette and reccomending that everyone buy chevy since your vette is so sweet.
02 Mustang GT... Tuned by Nelsons. Low 12's, anyone?
