I have a 99 Contour SVT and I have had problems with the car making a scraping sound. I think the sound comes from the back and it only happens when I have people sitting in the backseat. I think I have the aftermarket suspension drop(bought the car used, forgot to ask). I have 17 inch wheels on it year round.

I'm just wondering what could be causing the sound. It is a very bothersome sound that I would like to eliminate.

Well maybe your springs are shot. I have a 99 LX contour with stock suspension and everytime I pack 4 people I rub on the inner back fender walls. That with my 16x7.5 rims.

But if you have after market suspension check it out it may be shot.

i think there was a recall or something on the inner fender liners on 99's due to the scraping.
but i could be wrong

1. Fenders scraping?
- Check your rear tires for any damage to the outer area where the tread meets the sidewall.

2. Wheel well liners rubbing?
- Check the rear tires for any wear to the inner areas of the tires
- Check the wheel well liners for any wear/scuff marks

I forget what year, but the wheel well liners were revised (for 00 maybe?). The previous years' liners sat too close to the tires and some rubbed with compression to the rear end.
