I checked the "Common Problems" section and did some searching, however was unable to find my problem.
I drive a 1998 Contour SVT. Basicly for a little over a year the radio has just randomly cut out. It seemed to mostly happen in cold weather or if I hit a bump. Around the same time this started happening, my CD player stopped working so I took it to the Ford dealership. They replaced the CD player, assuming this would fix the cutting out problem, but it didn't. The cutting out problem wasn't really bad and I couldn't afford having them troubleshoot the problem, so I have just lived with it for the last year. Recently the radio would just shut off while sitting at a stop light, then come back on almost imediatly. I also noticed that the clock above the radio also would shut off at the same time. This morning I got into my car and the radio won't turn on at all.
Recently I had my battery replaced because it was old and not holding a charge, but that didn't fix the radio problem. I also have another issue, not sure if it is related, but when I go over 4500 RPMs, the battery light comes on and I notice a loss in electrical power...the headlights dim and the blower loses a little power.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Does it have a separate CD player/radio? Does the radio lose its station settings each time it cuts out?

Ah the wonderful electrical problems of ford You should check the fuses for the radio. Maybe one is blow. Also check the wiring. Maybe you have a loose wire somewhere.

No, it's all one unit.

You should check the wire harness to the stereo. Maybe its loose. Also you should let the dealership know that it been cutting out since they replaced the CD player ( I know that isnt ethically correct but just to see if they have any ideas).

If you are losing the settings you are losing main power, otherwise the bug is in the radio. And unless the replacement has the same bug, the problem is in the harness or fusebox. Swap the fuse anyway - I've seen far too many that look OK that are broken internally. I've only had one, not counting the harness replacment program, problem with my wiring. My cabin blower fan kept cutting out last spring. I found a half melted fuse and fuse holder. Ended up splicing a jumper and a separate fuse holder in the system to work around the problem.

I don't lose setting. I'll double check the fuse box. Is the clock (in the dash) connected to the radio? Thanks.

I'm can't recall if mine had 2 external power feeds. One is hooked to the key on power relay, other is on full battery.
