I've searched some tranny issue posts and they don't really relate to my problem. I know the cost to have tranny fixed at a shop has an insane cost. So turned to you guys for some help. I did some research on the web and found two answers. But I dont know if that's really my problem. Ok, problem is my first gear at times (not all the time) jumps out of gear, not smoothly, but so violently that the whole car feels like it got hit. At times it scares the crap out of me. The two answers I got looking online is, linkage may need adjustment or internal problem (that scares me). The first gear goes in fin and nothing unusual, no noises, no grinding, nothing! Just randomly likes to scare me. So, did anyone have this issue before? What did you do to get it resolved?

Thanks a bunch!

mine does the same thing every once and a while but I just live with it, never really figured out what the problem is

not that that information helps at all, but I would be interested to hear some theories

Sound like the detent mechanism, should control first + second, is farked.

Otherwise there's an external rod, that's bushed on both ends, that maintains the proper distance between the shifter and trans. Inspect the rod, there's big silicone bushings on it. And check to see if there's any damage to the rod itself.

Might be bent but I'd think it'd be pretty hard to do.

I'm guessing, but if the motor mounts are worn, or incorrectly installed, that might cause similar problems.

To adjust the shifter the tower/stick has to be held in Nuetral, and the clamp on the shifter rod, under the car, adjusted to match the tranny nuetral.
