My svt has grown increasingly louder in the last few months, and i now realize i have an exhaust leak. When warming up the car in the cold, all the smoke comes from underneath the car instead of from the exhuast tips.

I think i've pinpointed the location, but it would really help if someone could post a picture of an SVT exhaust, that way i can get a precise description to you guys to see how to fix it. I believe its close behind the cat.

Searching for SVT exhuasts just gave me a bunch of aftermarket pics...

From my experience, common leaks on our cars are right after the primary catalytic converter. More than likely, it's only your gasket.

Go back out, and run the car. Find some old cardboard and place it under the culprit leak spot(s). Get back in and revv the engine, but not too high if it's cold still..

this should find your leak as black soot will cover a spot on your cardboard.

Unfortunately I can't supply my pics as I've locked my backup CDs into a fireproof box that is currently buried with stuff

i tried filling a spray bottle with soapy water. I sprayed it over the areas, and its bubbling and shooting out where two sections of piping are connected, after the cat. Im guessing theres a gasket in there?

So the leak is bubbling between the cat and the pipe it connects to?

If so, that is a DIY fix for no more than $5 (gasket) The rest of the exhaust system (past the cat) is welded together and would otherwise have a hole or two if it were leaking like that.

Anyone have pics for this guy?

It could also be the flex pipe. Mine kinda did the same thing.

i also have exhaust 'smoke' coming out places other than the rear. mainly under drivers side (exits by drivers door)

is that where this gasket would go? could save me some work/$ if its the case. thanks and good luck on your fix

mine is mainly coming from the passenger side, i think. Im pretty sure its the gasket, id recommend trying what i did and spray some soapy water on it to see where its coming from
