Yes. Close to that. Depends on what needs to be done. Differs from trans to trans. It's going to be $1000 generally to remove and reinstall the trans alone though. With new clutch, rebuild and labor close to $3000 easy.

Hm, maybe it's time to sell this thing. That's getting higher than what I paid for the car.

Having it pulled/sent to Terry, a Quaife and new clutch installed, plus whatever other parts he replaces, will cost you around $2000. The cheapest option is to swap in a used stock trans and new SVT clutch/slve from ford - although you'll probaly start having problems in another 30-60K going that route.

Let me know when it ggoes on eBay - another project car would be nice if the rest of it isn't trashed.

Actually, if his clutch is this tore up, he probably needs everything in the trans redone. However, grinding doesn't always mean a rebuild is required. It means you check out whether the clutch is fully releasing or not.
If he had a bad TOB and/or air in the line and it was never bled, it could have been wearing down the disk the whole time and also cause grinding, eventually resulting in a clutch that won't grab.
In rare cases just doing a good clutch job with new fluid in the clutch hydraulics and tranny fluid might fix all the problems.
Not saying this is the case as he doesn't sound like he got it fixed when it first started happening.

Yea but if you have it removed might as well have it cracked open and inspected. With that many miles he might as well have at least the 3rd gear sync. replaced.

If it has been grinding gears for a while you can safely assume that the synchros have had the snot beat out of them and hence will need replacing.

It doesn't even grind all the time, only when shifting at high rpm's, or shifting hard. The biggger problem seems to be the clutch. For now at least...

What you said...

Sometimes, it pops out of 2nd gear and grinds like crazy, the 3rd gear syncros are bad, and in 4th gear mostly, sometimes 3rd or 5th, the car will sometimes rev up alot, but doesn't accelerate anywhere.

I was implying that right now, i'm more worried about the clutch. The syncros don't grind when driving normally, and the 2nd gear thing hasn't happened in a while. however, the clutch seems to be affecting my normal daily driving quite a bit.
