If it's a knocking that sounds like a womans high heels on a wooden floor, and it varies with speed, you can almost guarantee it's a fuxored rod bearing. It's usually accompnied by a burning oil smell too.

I have allready had one bearing, this is a faint ticking mainly on acceleration. With or with out load, starts at 2500rpm's, dies at top end, dies at low end. I am less woried about this now. New noise appeared last night, louder, roughr clanking. Only occurs with load, when you let off the gas. It goes away as soon as you give it the slightest amont of gas with load. This is a new one to me. Dont know if it helps, but with the ticking, it is not any louder when the oil cap is removed.

I still have a weird ticking noise that appears at first startup. I've been concerned that it could be a bearing as well, but it goes away once the car is driven and warmed up. Not sure what the hell it is. Noone else has described this problem. It's always the same speed, doesn't vary, and goes away when the RPMs are increased. It's like a "tack-tack-tack-tack-tack" noise coming from the passenger side of the motor. 97 Zetec.

For Zetec: Bad lifter. Try better oil (sythetic), may help some.

Before your next oil change use some engine flush and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. Then refill with QUALITY synthetic oil not the cheapo crap. You probably have gummed up lifters from using cheap oil.
