Subject vehicle is a '95 w/ Zetec and automatic. Everything works fine, but the shifter feels like I'm moving it through molassas when I go to shift it. I suspect something just needs a shot of some spray silicone - no idea whether I should be looking to do this from the inside or under the car - any suggestions?

Alternatively, I suppose it could be that something fell into the shifter slot and is binding and the handle goes back and fourth? Just guessing here - help me guess better!

The tape that slides back and forth and moves the indicator is probably ready to snap off. If it's still in the track try some silicone.

Probably best to take the trim surround off so as to get better access, yes? I haven't even looked yet, but I'm assumming that won't be too difficult.

Does this cable ride in a sleeve? If so, any idea where the best place might be to get access to the sleeve-end where I could squirt some lube in?

From underneath the car, under the shifter. There is a sleeve over it. (I have never done it (yet, the day will come!), but some CEG'ers have).
